Историческая справка
The Arsenal was founded in 1711 by a decree of Peter the Great as "Cannon Foundry Works". For the construction of a Foundry House the Emperor chose the spot on the left bank of the Neva river. Up until mid-19th century the industrial complex known as the Arsenal was located in Liteyny prospekt. It was moved to the Vyborg Side in 1850 and became one of the best utility industrial complexes of the Military Department.
The Arsenal was known to be a pet project of Nicholas I. In 1914 the plant was named after its founder. The same year the plant workers put up a monument to Peter I in front of the complex, the main works got a bust of Nicholas I, but both sculptures did not survive until today. Now the site of the monument to the founder of St. Petersburg Arsenal is occupied by a bust of Mikhail Frunze whose name the plant bore for more than half a century. Today the red-and-white buildings of OAO “Arsenal Machine-Building Plant” are considered a monument of industrial architecture. -

Историческая справка
The Obukhov house appeared on this site at the end of the first third of the 19th century. Since mid-19th century it belonged to Admiral E. Putyatin, a well-known mariner and statesman, who had done a lot to establish diplomatic and trade relations with China and Japan. His expedition to Japan that had an important political and scientific effect, was later described in I. Goncharov’s book “Pallada Frigate”. After returning from his expedition Putyatin received the title of a count; he later went on to become the Minister of Education. At the beginning of the 20th century the land plot was purchased by the merchant P. Komov, who seriously expanded and rebuilt the house. It is his name that the building has been known by ever since. - 312 Manezhny per., 13

Историческая справка
The original complex of the new Arsenal was built in 1799-1801 by the architect F. Demertsov. The main façade was decorated with an eight-column portico, and had 16 cannons and 2 mortars standing on gun carriages in front of it. In 1850 the Arsenal was moved to Simbirskaya ulitsa (now ulitsa Komsomola), and this place was occupied by armourer workshops that later became the Armoury. The buildings required reconstruction, so the colonnade was demolished. The reconstruction continued in the late 19th century. In the summer of 1940, during the expansion of the roadway of prospekt Volodarskogo (this was the name of Liteyny prospekt at that time) the cannons that had stood on this site for 130 years were moved to the façade of the Central Historical Military Museum of the Red Army (now the Historical Military Museum of Artillery, Engineering and Communication Forces). The building in Shpalernaya ulitsa is now occupied by the Military Prosecutor's office. -

Историческая справка
“Poltava” is a Russian fourth-rate 54-gun sailing battleship heaved off on 15 (26) June, 1712 from the staple of the St. Petersburg Admiralty. Peter I was personally involved in the construction process. The ship received her name in honour of the victory of the Russian army over the Swedes at the battle of Poltava, and became the first battleship built at the St. Petersburg Admiralty. During the years of her service, from 1712 to 1732, “Poltava” belonged to the Baltic Fleet, and by the end of the Great Northern War had taken part in six marine campaigns (1713-1717 and 1721). During her war service the ship carried the flag of Peter I. In 1732 battleship “Poltava” was disassembled as being unfit for active duty. After her service time came to an end the name “Poltava” was transferred from one ship to another 7 more times. On 6 March, 2015 a monument to “Poltava” was opened in Voskresenskaya naberezhnaya. The monument was commissioned to the sculptor Aleksandr Taratynov and the architect Valery Lukin. -

Историческая справка
According to a legend, this is the site of a famous assignation house. In the 1820’s the site was occupied by a small mansion with a garden. In the late 1840's it was replace by a two-storey wooden house on a stone foundation. 20 years later, the architect V. Lvov rebuilt it into a three-storey stone house with a wing in the courtyard. The current tenement building, once owned by K. Schreiber, was built by the architect V. van der Gucht in 1907. The house was built in the Neo-Baroque style, its interiors were also decorated according to the architect’s project. Its ceremonial enfilades appear in the Soviet film “Winter Cherry” and in the American version of “Eugene Onegin”. - 322 Novocherkassky pr., 1

Starting from 16 April, 1887 the embankment was called Polyustrovskaya naberezhnaya (Palyustrovskaya in the original spelling) after the village of Polyustrovo, and went from Arsenalnaya ulitsa to the present-day Piskaryovsky prospekt. It was named after Chairman of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee Ya. Sverdlov in 1925. The embankment was extended several times, in 1958, 1971, and 1984. Its present length was completed in 2007, after Malookhtinskaya naberezhnaya appeared on the city map absorbing a part Sverdlovskaya naberezhnaya from the Okhta river to Krasnogvardeyskaya ploshchad. Sverdlovskaya naberezhnaya is one of the busiest thoroughfares in the city. The section between Piskaryovsky prospekt and Malookhtinsky most (Malaya Okhta bridge) has two pedestrian overpasses built parallel to the roadway. -

Историческая справка
Shosse Revolyutsii was planned as a thoroughfare in the early 19th century as a replacement to an old winding road leading to Porokhovye. It was supposed to start right from the Kushelyovy-Bezborodko estate, so its project title was "Bezborodkinskoye shosse". However, the road built by 1857 was called "na Okhtenskiye Porokhovye Zavody" (“road to Okhta Powder-Mills”), so it soon turned into “Porokhvoye shosse”. The highway got its current name in 1922. Shosse Revolyutsii used to include a section of Ryabovskoy shosse from ulitsa Kommuny to Rzhevka railway station, whereas Ryabovskoye shosse was laid along Irinovskaya tram line (formerly Irinovskaya narrow-gauge railway that did not survive until today). However, much of this road was soon absorbed by Okhta Chemical Plant, the rest was partially merged with Kapsyulnoye shosse and partly turned into Rzhevskaya ulitsa. During the Siege of Leningrad the Lifeline Route passed along shosse Revolyutsii. In remembrance of this two memorial signs were put up along the highway. -
