Shosse Revolyutsii was planned as a thoroughfare in the early 19th century as a replacement to an old winding road leading to Porokhovye. It was supposed to start right from the Kushelyovy-Bezborodko estate, so its project title was "Bezborodkinskoye shosse". However, the road built by 1857 was called "na Okhtenskiye Porokhovye Zavody" (“road to Okhta Powder-Mills”), so it soon turned into “Porokhvoye shosse”. The highway got its current name in 1922. Shosse Revolyutsii used to include a section of Ryabovskoy shosse from ulitsa Kommuny to Rzhevka railway station, whereas Ryabovskoye shosse was laid along Irinovskaya tram line (formerly Irinovskaya narrow-gauge railway that did not survive until today). However, much of this road was soon absorbed by Okhta Chemical Plant, the rest was partially merged with Kapsyulnoye shosse and partly turned into Rzhevskaya ulitsa. During the Siege of Leningrad the Lifeline Route passed along shosse Revolyutsii. In remembrance of this two memorial signs were put up along the highway.
