The original complex of the new Arsenal was built in 1799-1801 by the architect F. Demertsov. The main façade was decorated with an eight-column portico, and had 16 cannons and 2 mortars standing on gun carriages in front of it. In 1850 the Arsenal was moved to Simbirskaya ulitsa (now ulitsa Komsomola), and this place was occupied by armourer workshops that later became the Armoury. The buildings required reconstruction, so the colonnade was demolished. The reconstruction continued in the late 19th century. In the summer of 1940, during the expansion of the roadway of prospekt Volodarskogo (this was the name of Liteyny prospekt at that time) the cannons that had stood on this site for 130 years were moved to the façade of the Central Historical Military Museum of the Red Army (now the Historical Military Museum of Artillery, Engineering and Communication Forces). The building in Shpalernaya ulitsa is now occupied by the Military Prosecutor's office.
