Founded in 1887 as the Moscow Rubber Manufacturing Partnership in the Village of Bogorodskoye, the company was transformed in 1910 into Bogatyr Rubber Products Manufacturing and Trade Joint-Stock Company. In 1923 Bogatyr (which means "mighty warrior”) naturally became "Red" (in tune with the new Communist reality), but continued to manufacture rubber and rubber-textile footwear (boots, galoshes, high shoes, etc.). The smell of hot rubber hung over Bogorodskoye and Yauza for many decades, until production was completely stopped in the mid-2000s.

The main building of the plant was built in 1911 according to the design of Gustav Avgustovich Gelrich, a Russian architect of German nationality, and is considered to be a monument of industrial architecture.

The surviving building now houses an office centre, the Moscow Hobby Fair, ad a hostel.

After nationalisation, Merchant Lyamin’s dacha became the first Soviet pilot demonstration Forest School under the People’s Commissariat of Education for children with impaired health. The forest air and well-maintained territory also attracted Communist party workers seeking peace and quiet. Thus, one of the rooms on the first floor of the former Lyamin’s dacha was occupied by Nadezhda Konstantinovna Krupskaya in the winter of 1919. The visit to Sokolniki of her husband, who concurrently was the leader of the world proletariat, for the children's New Year party is eternalised by a red granite memorial plaque with a bronze bas-relief portrait of Lenin created by sculptor S.Z. Mograchev, by the marble sculpture “Lenin and Children”, and by the book by writer A.T. Kononov “The New Year Celebration in Sokolniki”, based on which a film strip and a multitude of paintings were created.

It is known that Lenin (who was often referred to as “Ilyich”) was about four hours late for the mentioned New Year celebration because in Sokolniki he mistook the gang of Yanka Koshelyok (Yakov Kuznetsov) that was trying to stop him for a Red Army patrol, and himself ordered the driver to slow down the Rolls Royce. According to the recollections of Lenin’s personal driver, the following dialogue took place:
- What's the matter? I am Lenin!
- To hell with you that you are Lenin. And I am Koshelkov, the master of the city by night.
(It is generally accepted that the rag tag Koshelkov did not hear the last name well. The car was taken away, but neither Lenin nor his companions were seriously injured and arrived safely at the celebration, albeit late.)

By some miracle, the last residential building of the former village of Cherkizov has been preserved at 6 Zelyev Lane. The brick family house, built in 1900, was purchased after the war by a chemical scientist Grigory Vasilyevich Sagalaev, founder of the Department of Plastics Processing Technology at the Moscow State University of Fine Chemical Technologies. The house remains inhabited to this day: after the death of the professor, his widow lived there, and now Sagalaev's children do the same thing. The name of the Soviet playwrighter Arbuzov is associated with the house: it is generally believed that he settled here the heroines of his play "House on the Outskirts", which was originally called House in Cherkizovo".

The Church of Transfiguration built of stone in 1781 was the last church to be blown up in Moscow during the Soviet era. Under Khrushchev, the demolition of churches almost stopped, but the Transfiguration Church parish was indecently large and suspiciously active for Moscow. In the secret report of the Council for the Affairs of the Russian Orthodox Church under the USSR Council of Ministers “On the situation and activities of the church in Moscow and in the Moscow Region (for 1962)”, the Church of Transfiguration was noted as functioning “the most actively”: 993 baptisms, 236 funeral services, and 17 weddings were performed there.

At four in the morning on the night of July 17 to 18, 1964, the Church of Transfiguration of the Lord was blown up under the pretext of building the metro. According to a Moscow legend, after the explosion the church all rose up, maintaining a single silhouette, and only then fell apart: this was seen as a prophecy and hope for its revival.

In the 2010s the church was restored. And not in the 18th century version, but in the form it had when the explosion occurred, according to the dimensioned drawings of 1883 and photographs of the 20th century. On May 8, 2015, on the eve of the 70th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia performed the Rite of Great Consecration of the Church of Transfiguration of the Lord and conducted the Divine Liturgy in the newly consecrated temple.

The "House in Sokolniki" Residential Complex (31, Rusakovskaya ulitsa) is the architectural dominant of the area, a modern architectural project with varying number of storeys (18-34), designed in the high-tech style. The light-coloured building made of glass and steel combines minimalism and functionality, lightness of structure and versatility of space. The building's composition is designed in the form of an unwinding spiral. One of the features of the façade solution is the combination of numerous bay window verticals with the horizontals of French balconies. The panoramic windows of the complex offer a picturesque view of Sokolnichesky Park.

Historically, the “House in Sokolniki” is not famous for anything yet (considering the fact that it was built in 2009) and has contributed only one colourful episode to the capital’s chronicles: in the spring of 2023, bags of dollars and euros were flying out the windows of a five-room apartment on the 22nd floor. According to media reports, the police came to the apartment owner with a search warrant. So the view from the windows, and to the windows, of the “House in Sokolniki” can rightfully be considered not only picturesque, but also promising.

The St. Vladimir Children's Hospital is located at 7, ulitsa Stromynka. Most of Moscow's hospitals and clinics of the 19th century were founded and built with private donations. This hospital was no exception: it was founded by Pavel Grigoryevich von Derviz.

In 1872, Derviz addressed the Moscow Governor-General, Prince Dolgorukov, with the following letter: “I have spent the best years of my public activity in Moscow. Therefore, it is only there, and by nothing other than the establishment of a model Children's Hospital, that I would like to honour the memory of all the older children I lost in Russia. I am dedicating a capital of four hundred thousand to this charitable cause.”

It was to be built and maintained along the same lines as another model establishment, Prince of Oldenburg Hospital in St. Petersburg. Besides, 100 beds in the hospital should have been left free forever for orphans and children of the poorest parents. And already on August 1, 1876, the hospital was opened to receive patients.

The Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Sokolniki (in the north-eastward direction) is the only one in Moscow built with funds donated by the military department of the Russian Empire according to the standard design of a military church. The architect, Engineer Colonel F.M. Verzhbitsky, created a building that could accommodate 1,200 people, which corresponded to the approximate size of a regiment in peacetime. Now the church is part of the patriarchal courtyard at the headquarters of the airborne troops, which is why the adjacent green space has received the unofficial name of "Airborne Troops Garden". Something happened in the 21st century (something good for a change), and interesting, conceptual garages began to appear in Moscow. The "ship" garage on Bakuninskaya is a perfect example of this.
