House No. 32 in Prechistenka — Okhotnikov’s House of the 18th-19th centuries, rebuilt soon after the fire of 1812. It was consequently rebuilt several times. In 1868-1917 the building housed Polyvanov Private Gymnasium for Men, famous for its liberal leanings. Representatives of Moscow elite sent their children to this school. Its famous students included V.S. Solovyov, V.Y. Bryusov (who was expelled from Kreiman’s Gymnasium for his atheism), Andrey Beliy, M.A. Voloshin, and world chess champion Aleksandr Alekhin.
