K. came off the bridge, tripped, cussed at the baron, and strode right past the parade ground. Leaving the academy behind, he crossed the road, crossed himself looking at the temple, and went on. Immersed in his thoughts, he barely gave a look at the fire tower to his right, passed another block and stopped at the intersection. “This way I’ll get to Zarotnaya ulitsa... Uhm, no,” he thought, turned right and strode faster. K. crossed the avenue, turned right again, passed two Companies, reached the corner and looked to the left. “Finally,” he sighed calmly.

Detailed answer

K., who clearly lived not in our time, crossed Novo-Petergofsky Bridge, which used to be Baron Stieglitz Bridge, and went ahead. He passed by the parade ground, the academy, the fire tower (all of them are located long the modern Lermontovsky prospekt), decided not to go all the way to Zarotnaya ulitsa (now 13th Krasnoarmeyskaya ulitsa), so he turned to the 8th Krasnoarmeyskaya ulitsa instead. He crossed Izmaylovsky prospekt, turned right, passed the 4th and 5th Rotas (literally “Companies”, now Krasnoarmeyskaya ulitsas), reached the corner and looked at the 6th Rota he needed (Krasnoarmeyskaya ulitsa again). Note: “rota” means “company”, a military unit, and used to be the name of the modern-day Krasnoarmeyskaya ulitsas.
